The Iford Library Step Chair

From £735.00

The Iford Step Chair is Charlie’s take on the metamorphic library steps which were first built in the mid-18th century for the private libraries and offices of the European nobility or the Bourgeoisie. It is intriguingly classified as ‘mechanical furniture’. Charlie kept finding himself arriving at someones house only to find one of these chairs sitting proudly in a corner, often covered in books. He noticed that the owners of these chair were all very different, with often opposing taste in furniture, yet the charm and character of this dual use piece of furniture seemed to appeal to this unexpectedly broad range of people.
